Description

Family planning in PMA Ethiopia 2019 (September–December 2019): modern contraceptive prevalence reached 25.8% among all women and 35.8% among married women, with unmet need is 13.9% all women, 20.1% married and 63% of demand satisfied by a modern method. The method mix continued shifting toward long-acting methods — implants rose to 32% of users while injectables fell to 55%, down from 73% in early 2014 — but quality of care lagged: only 10% of women received full method information (MII+), 18% had discussed family planning with a provider in the past year, a quarter of use episodes were discontinued within 12 months, and while public facilities were generally well stocked, only 5% of health posts offered IUDs and fewer than a third of private facilities had essential lifesaving medicines.
