Maternal health

EPMA covers maternal health across the full pathway, from preconception care through antenatal care and delivery to postnatal care. Measures include the timing and components of antenatal care, place of delivery and how women were treated during childbirth (respectful maternity care), postnatal care and completion of the continuum of care (panel study), cost, distance and women’s autonomy as barriers to care, and facility readiness to manage complications (SDP survey). The panel study showed that coverage of individual services looks reasonable in isolation, while completion of the full sequence is far lower — evidence the Ministry has used to encourage comprehensive continuous care rather than single-contact program-specific service delivery.
